TOPICS ABOUT GENERAL GYNECOLOGY

Well Women

It’s important to see a gynecologist at least once a year, even when you’re not experiencing any acute symptoms. For patients over 65 years, that number goes up to two visits a year. At this appointment, Dr. Vahora offers STD testing, bone density tests, pap smears, and a birth control review to make sure you’re using the most appropriate and comfortable birth control, suited to your lifestyle.

Using a mirror and a clear speculum, Dr. Vahora educates her patients throughout all phases of treatment by showing them—whether it be a well visit, a talk about menopause, or a postsurgery checkup. She also offers educational resources to help establish healthy routines, as well as instructions on how to do kegel exercises that will maintain proper bowel, bladder, and vaginal health.

You’ll receive a variety of sample products suited your interests or needs, as well as advice on sexual health and intimacy issues. Dr. Vahora’s office features a wide range of physical therapy tools for purchase or order, including Luna Beads and Lelo Brand physical therapy tools.

Hormone Therapy

Dr. Vahora offers expert hormone therapy (including bioidentical hormones) for patients experiencing vaginal dryness, pain with intimacy, or those going through menopause. The hormones typically used in these cases are estrogen and progesterone. Dr. Vahora offers both systemic therapy (hormones released into the bloodstream) and local therapy (hormones applied via a ring, tablet, or creme). She offers non-hormonal options as well, which can be used in conjunction with hormones, or in place of them.

Prolapse

Dr. Vahora offers a wide variety of options for patients experiencing prolapse, a condition that occurs when a structure such as the uterus, rectum, bladder, urethra, small bowel, or vagina falls out of its normal position. She specializes in both surgical and non-surgical treatments, including physical therapy options and rehabilitation. Prolapse is a painful condition, and Dr. Vahora knows that every situation is different. She’ll work closely with you to determine the best course of treatment, and help you find a way back to a healthy and more comfortable situation. If surgery is necessary, she specializes in pelvic floor reconstruction, a safe, surgical approach to treating pelvic floor muscles that have been weakened or damaged.

Pelvic Pain/Endometriosis

Pelvic pain can be the result of a variety of causes, such as endometriosis, interstitial cystitis, vulvodynia, or vulvar/vaginal atrophy. Dr. Vahora has years of experience in noninvasive treatments and physical therapy tools that can help treat or relieve pelvic pain. She offers individualized treatment plans for each patient, providing a variety medical options, including compound therapy, when appropriate. For patients in need of surgery, Dr. Vahora is fellowship-trained in laparoscopic surgery, a minimally invasive procedure that allows her to see the entire abdomen and pelvis without making a large incision. If you’re experiencing pelvic pain or signs of endometriosis, call Dr. Vahora’s office for a consultation.

Fibroids

Fibroids are benign tumors (growths) that can develop on a woman’s reproductive organs and tissues. Symptoms vary from patient to patient, with some experiencing no discomfort while others experience back pain, prolonged menstruation, pain during intercourse, or pain while urinating. Whatever your symptoms, Dr. Vahora specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of fibroid cases. Her approach is minimalist and holistic, looking for the safest and fastest route to recovery. With some patients, care is simply a matter of managing discomfort while the body takes care of the fibroids on its own. In more complex cases, some patients will benefit from surgery, or hysterectomy. Dr. Vahora is a fellowship-trained surgeon, specializing in minimally invasive procedures that can reduce risk and decrease recovery time.

Hysterectomy

There are a host of health reasons for women to have a hysterectomy, including painful fibroids, uterine prolapse, chronic pain, cancer, or endometriosis. Whatever your symptoms, Dr. Vahora will talk you through the options and help you determine the best course of treatment. She specializes in laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy, a safe and minimally invasive hysterectomy in which the cervix remains in place. Dr. Vahora is able to remove the uterus using only laparoscopic tools, separating it from the cervix and removing it through a tiny abdominal incision. This approach is low risk and offers faster recovery times than traditional methods.

Dr. Vahora is also a pioneer in the field of robotic surgery, offering the da Vinci® Robotic Assisted Hysterectomy, an advanced form of hysterectomy that utilizes a robotic arm, requiring only a tiny incision that will leave the patient with no scars. If you’re in need of a hysterectomy, Dr. Vahora can talk you through the options and help you decide which approach is right for you.

Dyspareunia

Dyspareunia (pain with intimacy) is a condition that occurs in patients of all ages, and for a variety of reasons. It is also commonly experienced by women going through menopause or cancer treatments. In those instances, the vaginal tissues can become dry and sensitive, leading to discomfort before or after intercourse. Dr. Vahora works closely with patients experiencing dyspareunia, helping you understand the source of your discomfort and how it might be treated. Treatments can include hormone therapy, or pain management. Dr. Vahora also offers a revolutionary, non-hormonal treatment called the MonaLisa Touch®. This game-changing approach to care involves a medical laser that delivers controlled energy to the vaginal tissue, promoting the production of collagen in your cells. This collagen can help you return to vaginal and vulvar health.

Menopause

Dr. Vahora prides herself on the lifelong relationships she is able to form with her patients. She likes to help patients through every stage in their development, and specializes in the caring for those entering puberty as well as those beginning menopause. She offers a variety of treatments and comfort management options for patients going through menopause, including different hormone therapies, as well as MonaLisa Touch® treatments, and other nonhormonal options.

With these strong relationships, Dr. Vahora focuses patient education and engaging her patients in each step of the treatment process. This is why she uses a clear speculum and a mirror to show patients exactly how she will perform treatment and what is happening to their bodies. She’ll work closely with you to determine the best approach to treatment for your specific situation.

Sexual Health

Dr. Vahora is the one-stop-shop for all your sexual health needs, from contraception to instructions for Kegel exercises that can maintain proper bowel, bladder, and vaginal health. In addition to highly specialized care, she provides educational resources in a comfortable, non-judgmental environment. Her office has a wide range of physical therapy tools available for purchase or order, including Luna Beads and Lelo brand physical therapy tools. For patients experiencing discomfort or pain during intimacy, she offers revolutionary MonaLisa Touch® treatments. These treatments and physical therapy tools can be purchased using your health savings account, and deducted from your taxes. Whether you simply have questions or a specific sexual health condition, make an appointment for a consultation with Dr. Vahora today, and find out how she can help you.

Genetic Testing

As a potentially life-saving preventive measure, Dr. Vahora offers on-site genetic testing for hereditary or ovarian cancer, and Lynch syndrome (hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer). Knowing your family’s cancer history can you help detect cancer at an earlier stage, or prevent it altogether. Up to 10 percent of cancers are hereditary, and understanding what you might be at risk for can make all the difference.

Laparoscopic Surgery

Many gynecological issues can be handled with medication and nonhormonal treatments. However, if surgery is necessary, Dr. Vahora specializes in laparoscopic surgery, a minimally invasive procedure that increases predictability and decreases recovery time. Dr. Vahora is a minimalist, and never performs surgery unless it is the only option. In those cases, laparoscopic surgery allows her to work on the entire abdomen and pelvis without making a large incision, thereby reducing risk and scarring.

After surgery, all patients benefit from Dr. Vahora’s commitment to the principles of ERAS® (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery), a perioperative approach to care designed to promote early recovery and a rapid return to strength. ERAS® takes a comprehensive look at all areas of the patient’s journey through surgery and recovery, resulting in a well-coordinated, team-oriented approach to your treatment. This improves predictability, speed of recovery, and general well-being before, during, and after surgery — getting patients back on their feet faster than ever.

For hysterectomy patients, Dr. Vahora has pioneered the ground-breaking GIRLS program (Gynecological Innovative Recovery After Laparoscopic Hysterectomy Surgery). This is an evidence-based approach to perioperative care that can improve recovery time, decrease pain, and help you return to your normal life quickly, using nonnarcotic options.

All patients are also able to benefit from Dr. Vahora’s commitment to education throughout the process. She uses a mirror and clear speculum to show each patient the healing process, tell them what to expect, and ensure that they feel comfortable with and confident in their unique care plan.
